Media Statale Michelangelo
The
Michelangelo school is situated in Bari and the pupils belong to the middle
class. The Institute is structured on three floors with classrooms, laboratories
of technics, music, art and computer, and an Auditorium for the dramatizations
and meetings.
In
the school disables of different desease are welcome. There are specialized
laboratories and activities, managed by the technological operator and
mostly by the local Sanitary Service.There are eight courses, called sections.
Each section is formed by three classes: first, second and third class.
The
pupils are 655 (from 11 to 14 years old). Four courses have five lessons
a day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., 30 lessons a week, while the pupils attending
the other four courses have lunch at school and the lessons finish at 4
p.m.. These last courses, called ‘tempo prolungato’, have 36 lessons a
week with activities of laboratories and ‘open classes’.
The
general plan of the activities is prepared by the teaching team of the
school, directed by the Principal Mrs Francesca Roca.
Extra
curricular activities are cineforum, sport games, projects ofeducation
to peace, dramas, intercultural projects and multimedial activities.
Every
year in november, all the classes take part in a scientific project, wich
aims to promote the interests of the young people in the scientific and
technological culture.
The
main finality of the Michelangelo school is to prepare the pupils to gain
a better quality of life through a solid cultural knowledge.
The
curricular foreign language is English but the pupils can attend extra
curricular courses of French, German and Spanish. The pupils of many classes
exchange letters, drawings and other works with twin schools in other European
Countries. Many teachers of the school are concerned with the didactic
experimentation of History, new methods of both Technological programs
and Mathematics.
The
disable children are integrated with their luckier friends and take part
in the common activities organized by the school team of teachers but specialised
teachers lead them in individualized programms responding to the needs
of each of them.
The
social and cultural levels of the pupils attending the school is medium-high
and they all are going to attend the secondary high schools after the third
year. To meet their need the teacher’s team plans many activities in order
to increase interests, promote aptitudes and help them in the choices for
their future.
Extra
curricular activities are: cineforum, dramas, youth games, health education
and different projects such as the scientific and technologic culture’s
week, a project for the cooperation between North and South Countries,
an experimentation of a new method for learning history and multimedial
laboratories.
